Jaguar-Land Rover Opens New Assembly Plant in India – Releases its First Model

Merritt Island Jaguar is pleased to announce that Jaguar – Land Rover has recently inaugurated its first Indian factory on Friday and a Land Rover Freelander 2 SUV was the first vehicle to be rolled out of this factory. After India’s auto manufacturing giant, Tata Motors, bought Jaguar and Land Rover in 2008, this is the first assembly plant of the brand which is located near Pune, Maharashtra in India.

Officials at Tata Motors believe that the assembly of Land Rover models in India will help the brand to better compete against its class competitors like BMW, Audi, and Mercedes –Benz, all of which are now building their vehicles in the South Asian country.

The booming Indian economy and the growing demand for luxury products in India have given a boost to the company’s sales figures which have seen a significant growth since they opened their first showroom in 2009.

The new plant in Pune will assemble Land Rover Freelander 2 vehicles supplied in Complete Knock Down from the Halewood manufacturing plant in Liverpool, UK. As of now, the vehicle will be available in two variants in India—the TD4 SE Automatic and the SD4 HSE Automatic.

Merritt Island Jaguar, a leading Florida Jaguar car dealer in Merritt Island, has some great news to share! Jaguar has joined with Research In Motion (RIM), DENSO and Real VNC and has unveiled 'Connect and View', the latest generation of integrated mobile phone and in-vehicle infotainment systems recently. Jaguar XKR-S Review from CAR Magazine

Jaguar XKR-S (2011) CAR review
By Chris Chilton

First Drives

01 June 2011 00:01

The new XKR-S is Jag’s hottest XK yet, a 542bhp beast based on last year’s 75 anniversary special but with even more power. And this time it's got mouth as well as trousers.

The front end of the XKR-S features a pair of gaping nostrils delivering air to the supercharged V8, and a black mouth that gives it a very different look to the faux E-type nose found on other XKs. At the back there’s prominent hoop spoiler and part of a diffuser, although since it extends about a hair’s breadth under the car, it might be more for show than go.

So the new 2011 XKR-S is like Jag’s answer to a 911 GT3?
It’s probably better to think of it having some of the flavour of extremely focused cars like GT3, but still retaining a very Jaguar feel, and therefore a load more civility than the Porsche.

So while Jag has finally fitted some body-hugging Recaro chairs, you won’t find anything so grubby as a roll cage in there. Its closest rival would probably be Maserati’s new Granturismo-based MC Stradale.

How does it compare with a standard XKR?
By any normal standards the XKR is a great performance coupe. But this new XKR-S inherits some of the tricks first aired on last year’s 75 anniversary special to lift the R-S onto another plane dynamically, including a very stiff aluminium front suspension upright. So the steering is more precise, incredibly alert and full of feel.

The body control is superb too, and not just on smooth roads. Throw in some bumps and the XKR-S barely notices, somehow managing to glide over them. A very acceptable pay-off is the noticeably knobblier low-speed ride, particularly since you also get 39bhp and 39lb ft more to play with than in the regular XKR.

If this thing’s got 550bhp, that makes it as powerful as the legendary XJ220 supercar!
Yup, but the XK’s a damn sight torquier - 501lb ft plays 476lb ft. And while the XJ220 was blighted by serious turbo lag, the R-S’s power is spread evenly and available instantly. It’s not much slower either.

The old timer hit 60mph in 4.0sec and 100mph in around 8.0sec; the new boy takes 4.2sec and 8.6sec. On top speed though, even the 186mph R-S has to give way to the two-decade old XJ220.

Sounds incredible. What’s not to like?
Virtually nothing. The back seats are a joke, the cabin didn’t feel particularly special five years ago when the XK cost £50k - and certainly feels out of its depth at double that price, although the carbon-look woven leather trim is very smart.

And the chassis isn’t perfect. With so much torque available at any point in the rev range, traction can become an issue on really wet roads.

The Jaguar XKR-S is brilliant. It takes the already exciting and very capable XKR and creates an even more thrilling GT, one that would be just as happy thrashing round a circuit on the weekend as ferrying you through London traffic to work during the week.

If you are doing loads of trackdays, a 911 GT3 would still be more fun, although since production has finished, you’d need to find a used one or go for the much more hardcore, much more expensive GT3 RS 4.0.

That’s a very different kind of car though and nowhere near as broad in its talents as the Jag. And while the XKR-S’s £97,000 price is a bit of a shocker – it costs £20k more than an XKR - you’d certainly have to be steadfastly determined to have a set of Aston keys in your pocket before you spent another £80k on a DBS.

Know When To "Move Over", from AAA Going Places Magazine

Know When To "Move Over"

Roadside assistance workers are true highway heroes. Day and night, in all kinds of weather, theseƂ roadside problem solvers are the face of AAA to millions of grateful members. Sadly, their job also is one of the most dangerous. Some are injured in the line of duty. Others never make it home

But many states have laws that help ensure the safety of roadside assistance personnel and other emergency responders. "Move Over" laws, as they have come to be known, require motorists to change lanes or slow down when approaching emergency vehicles such as police cars, fire trucks and ambulances, or roadside assistance vehicles such as tow trucks, stopped on the side of the road with their lights flashing. Move over laws have been adopted in 43 states, but only 29 states provide protection for drivers of tow trucks and recovery vehicles.

Although "Move Over" laws exist in most states, there is still little knowledge of them. In a national poll, 71 percent of Americans said they have not heard of them. Law wording varies from state to state, but here are some general answers to key questions to help keep you and roadside workers safe.

What should I do if I see an emergency vehicle stopped on the side of the road with lights flashing?

First, slow down so that you can assess the situation. If you're on a multi-lane highway and it's safe to do so, move over by changing lanes away from the emergency vehicle. Leave at least one vacant lane between you and the emergency vehicle to provide a safe zone for emergency vehicles or workers performing their jobs in the area.

What should I do if I'm not able to safely change lanes away from the emergency vehicle or I'm on a two-lane road?

If you are unable to safely move over by changing lanes, you should slow down to at least 20 mph below the posted speed limit and approach with caution.

If I cannot change lanes safely, should I stop my vehicle in the roadway?

No, you should slow down while maintaining a safe speed. Do not stop in the roadway or block the flow of traffic unless directed to do so by emergency personnel.

How can I avoid becoming involved in a crash when traffic slows?

Stay alert. The single most important thing you can do to protect yourself and others is to pay attention behind the wheel. By scanning the roadway for incidents that lie ahead of you and being aware of activities of vehicles around you, you will be able to anticipate problems and react safely.

Moving over or slowing down for emergency vehicles on the roadside is the safe thing to do in any state you drive, because it provides a needed safety cushion for those who help motorists and keeps them safe on the roadways. Doing so is not just the right thing to do—it's the law in most states.
